Langatun is the Celtic word for Langethal, a small town in Switzerland, where this brand comes from. The name is a tribute to the first settlers and distillers from the region, whose traditions were used, carried on and made better in the brandโ€™s history. Jakob Baumberger, together with his brothers, founded Langatun in 1857 on his fatherโ€™s farm and took over the Mumenthaler-Marti distillery in 1863. When he finally purchased a spring in 1877, he also had soft, pure water, perfect for distilling. Langatun mostly produces whiskey and are selling their products internationally since 2017. The production of Langatun products is top secret to this day and only a few people know the key to producing delicious Langatun whiskey. Langatun now also produces other spirits, with their 1616 Gin being the first product in the line.

“Langatun” is the Celtic translation of the place name “Langenthal”, which can be traced back to the year 861. The name means “the fortified place on the Langa”. The determinant word “Langa” can be assigned to the old European name of water. Water is one of the most important elements in the production of whisky. The name for the Langatun Whisky is therefore a tribute to the first settlers and master brewers in this area. Their traditions were taken over, continued and expanded by Baumberger’s descendants.
